THE  POST OFFICE
Nehemia and his wife Hannah and their young family, came to Tintagel from Delabole to live and set up a Post Office around 1895. Nehemiah's father Robert, had already done this at Medrose, Delabole. Nehemiah built Tintagel House, half of which was to be the Post office and the other half a Guest House. Previous to this the mail had been collected by a Mr. Bakewill. He ran the Post Office with the help of his son Robert until 1910, when Robert took over as Post Master. Robert saw many changes in his time in office. The mail had to be collected from, and taken to, Camelford station by horse and trap several times a day. In World War1, most of their horses were taken and sent o France but then along came the motor car. Robert held the position for 40 years until his son Ivan took over in 1950.  It was then decided to sell off the Post Office and Ivan and his wife Pamela, built a new home in Bossiney Road with an adjoining Post Office at the side. In 1984 Ivan and Pamela, decided to retire to Wadebridge, to be nearer their family. The long association with the Post Office and the Nute family was ended. LANCELOT HOUSE Lancelot House was built by Herbert Nute, the eldest son of Nehemiah Nute. With the help of his wife Lily, he ran a very successful butchery business for many years. around 1937, they sold the business and bought Halgabron farm, where they lived and worked. In 1949 Herbert retired but continued to work alongside his son Gordon. Phillip Nute, now  farms at Halgabron with his family, son of Gordon and Grandson of Herbert.
